Which Maine Company Is The Top Employer In The State?

Retail?  Medical?  Yes to both.

If you sit back and really think hard about it, you'd probably come up with the top 5 employers in Maine on your own.  But, we had nothing better to do today than play music and investigate it for you, so, allow us to enlighten.

When it comes to the total amount of employees, two companies are very close to each other concerning the top spot in Maine.  Maine Health, and Hannaford.

Maine Health, a group of healthcare providers and organizations including Maine Medical Center in Portland, employs anywhere from 8501 to 9000 people, according to the Maine Department Of Labor website.

Although, Hannaford supermarkets are right there with Maine Health!  According to the latest statistics released during the 3rd quarter of 2016, Hannaford will employ 8001 to 8500 folks on any given day.  Some sites like Marketwatch actually have Hannaford as Maine's top employer.  Hey, people have to eat.

Wal-Mart/Sam's Club comes in third with anywhere between 7001 - 7500 employees.  Military shipbuilder Bath Iron Works Corporation has 5501 to 6000 hard working people, and L.L. Bean rounds up the top 5 with 4501 to 5000 workers statewide.

Big employers in our area include Eastern Maine Medical Center at #6 with 4001 to 4500 workers and the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor at #26 with up to 1500 employees.
