One of my most personally anticipated moments of the year just arrived for me. The date for the annual Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft has been announced! I love to double-fist the delicious-snacky-cakey-treats, multiple times over the course of the day. In this humble disc jockey's opinion, whoopie pies run an incredibly close second only to donuts in their level of ultimate awesomeness. But we don't have a donut festival here in Maine, so...

On Saturday June 23rd,  from 10:00a.m. - 4:00p.m., thousands will descend upon Dover-Foxcroft to sample the tasty treats in all forms and varieties. We all grew up on the standard chocolate cakes filled with a delicious white, creamy filling. But in recent years, with all sorts of changing trends in the culinary world, who knows what you might find on a whoopie pie.

According to MaineWhoopiePieFestival.com, there will be all sorts of activities going on that day. In the morning they have what they aptly call an "Earn Your Whoopie Pie" 3k Walk/Race. There will also be dozens of vendors selling arts and crafts, and other kinds of food besides whoopie pies, just in case you feel like leaving some room for anything else. There will also be tons of live music, a whoopie pie eating contest, and even a best-dressed pets contest!

For more details about the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, be sure to visit their website, and dig out your special over-sized festival food eating pants so that you have plenty of room to try all the different whoopies. I mean, it's a whoopie pie festival for gosh sake. The least you can do is eat til you can't. Who ever regretted doing that?
