I think it is a good idea to be cautious when meeting someone for the first time but I am guessing this may be more of a time thing. It's a busy world and when ladies are approached by someone on-line they don't want to spend a lot of time on a guy who looks pretty but lacks compatibility.  Enter Facebook!

In a new study by Match.com of more than 5,000 singles, found that 48 percent of women admit that they research a first date on Facebook. An almost equal number expect to know a man's work status before their first meeting.

Apparently men on the other hand think face to face is  better place to get to know someone as 49 percent of them believe that practice of pre-screening is ' unacceptable.'
