There she is again standing over by the record machine
Oooh, she's looking like a model on the cover of a magazine
Why she's too cute to be a minute over seventeen

It was on this date in 1899 that the first ever jukebox was installed.  It happened in the ballroom of the San Francisco Palais Royal Hotel.  The term jukebox started coming into play during the 1940s.

Oh can't you see me standing here,
I've got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen.

In 1974, Billy Swan hit #1 with I Can Help.  He never had another hit song again, which made him a one hit wonder.  Did his mother call him that?  We doubt it.

Also in this day in 1974 The Rolling Stones hit #1 for the fifth time with the album It's Only Rock N' Roll. It was the last album for guitarist Mick Taylor who would soon leave the band and be replaced by Ronnie Wood, formerly of the Faces.  By this time it was well known that the Stones were big fans of the Motown sound, and this album would feature Ain't Too Proud To Beg, a big hit by the Temptations.

One of the original rock n' roll pioneers, Jerry Lee Lewis, had just been released from jail on this date in 1976.  He had only been out of the slammer for ten short hours before he was arrested again in front of Graceland, Elvis Presley's home, holding a handgun and demanding to see the king.  You have to wonder what would have happened if Elvis had answered the doorbell.  Bet there would have been "A whole lotta shakin' goin' on."

In 1979, Pink Floyd released a song featuring children from a school right down the road from the studio that the band recorded in.  Islington Green School in North London provided the kids, and then Pink Floyd provided Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2). How did the idea to use school children come about?   Bob Ezrin produced the song, and he was the same guy who produced School's Out by Alice Cooper, which also featured school children singing in the background.  There, you learn something new everyday, don't you?

In 1991, Michael Jackson scored another #1 hit, this time with Black Or White. The song featured Slash from Guns N' Roses on lead guitar.

Miley Ray Cyrus, or Hannah Montana, we're really not sure which one,  was born on this date in 1992.  Both were born with a birth defect where they cannot keep their tongue inside of their mouth, which comes in handy when hunting fireflies.
