What's the most memorable Halloween song in the world? It's an irritating little ditty that may make you jump off the cliff by the end of the day.

Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett hit #1 on this date in 1962.  It's one of those ear worm songs that your mind refuses to relinquish after hearing it, so listen to it again if you dare.

On this date in 1973, the Rolling Stones hit #1 with Angie.  Women love this song. Men? Not so much.  Women love Mick Jagger too.  Men, well they envy him, 'cause he gets all the women.

Led Zeppelin's concert movie, The Song Remains The Same, premiered on this date back in 1979.  I saw the movie when it first came out.  None of my friends would go to the flick with me, the thought that it would be boring.  They were right.  Also, I have found over the years that most women were repulsed by Robert Plant's open shirt.  Thankfully, Plant doesn't dress that way on stage today.

It was a horrible day in rock history on this date back in 1977 when the small plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd went down in the middle of a swamp in Gillsburg, Mississippi. The band's lead singer and founding member, Ronnie Van Zandt was killed, along with guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister, Cassie, who was a back up singer for the band.  Dean Kilpatrick, the band's manager also died in the crash.

Street Survivors, Lynyrd Skynyrd's fifth studio album was released just three days prior to the plane crash, and MCA quickly pulled the album from the shelves of record stores because of its cover.  The cover was redone with just a plain black background and released again.

Street Survivors, original and then post crash album covers, on MCA Records.

In 1978, a little know group called The Police made their U.S. debut at a club in New York. Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland flew a lost cost airline to the Big Apple and carried on their instruments as hand luggage.  Sting doesn't put up with that s**t anymore.

In 1979 the Eagles hit #1 with their album The Long Run, it would stay their for nine weeks.  The band were at their very best at that point in time, although disintegrating both onstage on off. Sometimes artists do their best work when they're totally pissed off.

Tom Petty turns 65 today, born on this date in 1950.  Nobody that listens to I-95 knows who he is, so I won't go into details.
