Bangor Basketball Court Gets Much Needed Resurfacing
There's no question that one of the most popular part of any park when you're a kid is the basketball court.
Anytime I pass a playground that has one, 9 times out of 10 is occupied with kids throwing the ball around and shooting hoops. In Bangor, the court adjacent to Hayford Park and the new Skate Park is a spot that's always busy, so much so that it's seen it's fair share of wear and tear.
That's why I was excited to hear that the court was getting a facelift this fall. It's actually happening right now, according to Bangor Parks and Recreation Director, Tracy Willette.
"Our Public Works Department is removing the old pavement. We're going to be resurfacing and putting down some new pavement for the basketball court on 13th street. "
Willette says it's been quite a few years since the court has been resurfaced, and there was money set aside in the City's Budget for the project to be done this year.
"We have about $10k each year to do each court. It's the one at Hayford Park, next to the Skatepark. It's been quite a while and gets quite a bit of use. We have lights on it and certainly, it was time to give it some attention so that's what we're doing. "
Willette says the project should be wrapped up in a matter of a couple of weeks, and back open to the public.
