With a little under a month left till the official start of spring, those who want to get outside and sled better do so on the double, before all the snow melts.

Here are four "Top Sledding Spots" in the Bangor/Brewer area, in case you were wondering where to go!

1.) Williams Park

On the corner of Hancock and Newbury Streets in Bangor, right across from St. John's Church, there's a little fenced-in park.

If you've got younger kids, toddlers, and up, this is a great little park because it's enclosed, and the sledding hill is very open and not very steep.

2.) Indian Trail Park

On North Main Street in Brewer, is another great place to take kids of all ages.

It's not super steep, and the walk back up isn't too terrible (for both kiddos and parents alike.)

While riding the hill down will take you to the tree line, it's not at too rapid a rate as to be hazardous.

3.) Mansfield Park Hill

This one's more of a big-kid hill, in my humble opinion. It has a bit more of an incline and is usually very busy.

If you catch the hill just right, say on a tube sled, you can make it down to where the wooden fence is, which can be a pain to avoid if your approach is too speedy.

Each year I've gone with my kids, there's always a pile of sled parts (kind of like sled carnage warning those who dare approach) so you know the hill has claimed at least a handful of sleds a season.)

4.) Essex Street Hill

Right off of Watchmaker Street, in front of the old PAL building and next to the dog park, is a hill you can actually see from the street below.

It's the stuff of legends. I feel like everyone over a certain age has a story from their youth that involved sledding down Essex Street Hill. It's not for the faint of heart. The incline is steep and it's a LONG way down, and a LONG way back up again.

Those who catch speed on this hill can launch right out onto the pond at the end. While it's a thrill of a hill to be sure, it's also a little riskier than the rest, so tread carefully up and down.

Honorable Mention: My backyard

Luckily enough, even though we live "in town" there's this great little "wild" spot in my backyard that comes complete with a little drop, which in the winter creates a quaint little hill that all the neighborhood kids seem to enjoy riding down and running up.

While it's not a huge thrill ride or anything spectacular, it is nice that in the safety of our backyard, there's a spot where the kids can enjoy the snow and smile.
