A major winter storm is churning up the east coast. The nor'easter will bring strong winds and heavy snow to the Bangor and Downeast areas, where a Blizzard Warning has been issued.

It's all coming together. After a week of watching a winter storm, it has develop into what forecasters are calling a major nor'easter. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for the Bangor and Downeast areas, Saturday. Further north, the Millinocket area is under a Winter Storm Warning. Much of Aroostook county is under a Winter Storm Watch ahead of the storm.

The bulk of the storm is expected to impact coastal Maine, inland to the I-95 corridor. 12-18 inches of snow is expected, will lesser amounts for the further inland to the west and north. It won't be a big miss for those western and northern areas of the state, with 8-12 inches of new snowfall expected. Far western and northern Maine may pick up 6-8 inches of additional snow.

In addition to the snow, gusty winds are a concern throughout the day and evening, Saturday. Winds could top-out near 50 MPH along the coast, 35-40 MPH inland.

The snow is expected to start flying around 7 Saturday morning, 9 a.m. in the Bangor area.
