The Bangor Area Has Been Issued An Air Quality Warning For Monday
The last couple days have been fairly rugged weather-wise. Unless you're one of those weirdos that's really into the heat. Me? Not so much. The heat makes me wildly uncomfortable. But today will literally be one for the books. Even Bangor schools canceled and went remote for the day, as did many other schools.
Today we're supposed to top out in the mid 90's. Yuck. I'm not one of those folks who loves the beach, or anything like that. I've been known to hop into an inner tube out to camp, but no beaches for this guy. But you also won't find me out mowing the lawn either. In fact, nobody should be doing much of anything outside today.
In different parts of the state, the Maine DEP has issued an air quality alert. There are pretty high levels of ozone in the atmosphere today, and it can cause a lot of discomfort for some people. Like outdoor, strenuous work. I really feel for construction workers, roofers, flaggers, carpenters.... today is not your day.
For folks with heart conditions or breathing issues for instance, should really limit what they do outdoors. Even people in good health should be taking plenty of breaks during their outdoor activities, and drinking lots of water. This is all separate from the normal stuff to look out for too, like heat stroke.
Summer is awesome, no doubt. But it's also important to remember that hot weather is no joke. It can very dangerous for some people. And, relief is in sight. Though it'll be very warm again tomorrow, it's getting steadily cooler as the week goes on. Til the weekend, when temps are about 30 degrees cooler than they'll be today.
Just take it easy, make smart warm weather choices, and for the love of god..... HYDRATE! Summer ain't around for very long, so make the most of it. Or do what I do, and hide inside as much as possible and wait for fall. No wonder I'm so pasty........
