It's been a frantic 24 hours in the Bangor area. Teams of emergency services members, airport officials, and now national and federal investigators have either been stationed at or en route to the Bangor International Airport, following a devastating crash that took place Sunday night, amid a major winter storm.

Information has started to come out about just what took place at 7:45 Sunday evening.

So far, the FAA released an initial report that a Bombardier CL-600-2B16, with the registration number N10KJ, went down on the runway, moments after attempting to depart from runway 33 at Bangor International Airport.

They said the aircraft "crashed under unknown circumstances on departure, came to rest inverted, and caught fire."

KHOU 11 in Houston obtained recordings of conversations between the air traffic tower and the pilots waiting to take off from BIA on Sunday evening, which tells a story of low visibility and icy/snowy conditions as the planes took turns getting ready to taxi on the runway. At one point, one pilot can be heard talking about de-icing issues with the tower, stating that "my guys are trying to make us go, but I keep telling them this is stupid," before they discussed attempting to de-ice things again.

In a press statement released Monday afternoon, Bangor Police Sgt. Jeremy Brock, Public Information Officer with the Department, says despite initial reports that indicated 7 people had been on board and a member of the flight crew had survived, those numbers have now changed. It's now believed that only six people were on board and that all those who crashed in the plane at Bangor International Airport are thought to have died.

"When an accident such as this occurs, there are numerous agencies and assets, both state and federal, that must coordinate their respective portions of the investigation. With the large number of stakeholders involved, it is important that we don’t release any information until all parties have completed their work and can confirm the information being released.

According to the flight manifest, there were six people on the flight. No one from the incident was transported to the hospital, and all on the flight are presumed to be deceased. The identities of the people on the flight are not being released publicly at this time, pending positive identification."

He followed that up with "A flight manifest typically includes all passengers and crew members on a flight. Of course, we are relying on the document to be accurate and will seek to verify all information through the investigation. The information we have from the flight manifest indicates 6 people."

BIA Director Jose Saavedra said in a statement to the press earlier Monday morning that a team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board is trying to make their way to Maine, as we speak, to look into the matter and assess any possible causes.

He had hoped they would arrive by late this afternoon, but with weather conditions still pretty windy and snowy, and travel nationwide being impacted by this storm that has devastated many other states, not just Maine, that might cause some delays.

Saavedra says that authorities and EMS crews have been standing guard at the point of impact and the scene of the wreck, as nothing can be cleared from the site until the investigators have arrived and done their work.

We will continue to update this story as more details are released.
