In Bangor, to add some fun into the mix, several streets in the downtown area will be getting a facelift of sorts, and therefore won't be available to park on, as they'll have work crews all over the place.

The City of Bangor put out a public notice earlier this week, saying a handful of roads will be closed for parking while crews work to mill and pave the areas.

So now, not only are you not able to travel from Bangor to Brewer over the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge at the moment, but many of the roads connected to the detour that takes you through the City of Bangor to the Penobscot Bridge, where you can cross to Brewer, will be affected.

"Road work is scheduled for several neighborhoods this Thursday, July 9, and no parking will be allowed in those areas in order to help road crews expedite their work. Street milling is the process of grinding and removing the top layer of a paved roadway. It eliminates cracks, ruts, and bumps to make way for a fresh asphalt overlay. No parking will be strictly enforced on all listed streets during the milling work."

They go into a bit more detail on the City's website, if you're interested.

So, where exactly will this all be taking place?

Here's a list of the streets affected.

The area of Stillwater Avenue from Broadway to Essex Street.
Essex Street from State Street to York Street.
Broad Street from Main Street to Merchants Plaza.
Merchants Plaza from Broad Street to Water Street.
Broad Street from Water Street to Washington Street.
Fifth Street from Cedar Street to Vine Street.

City officials say flaggers and signs will be up to help motorists navigate around the large equipment and personnel. They are asking residents to drive with care through the work zones, keeping their eyes on the road ahead so they can follow the flaggers' directions.

Adding to that chaos is the fact that Thursday is another concert day in Bangor, with a country act taking the stage at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, so navigating downtown, with a heavier-than-usual number of drivers, through several detours could make for an interesting afternoon.

Thursday might be a great day to work from home, if you have that luxury.
