Best-Selling Author To Appear At Together Place Event

A former Bangor graduate, who is now a best-selling author, will appear at an open house this week at the Together Place in Bangor.

You've probably driven past the Together Place's building, on the corner of Union and Second Streets, dozens of times, without really noticing it. That is until just recently, when a large mural appeared on the outside of the building, featuring several well-known Maine residents. But the organization does a lot of good in the community and is hoping to spread the word about its services.

On Thursday, November 29th, the public is invited to an open house that will feature best-selling author Christina Baker Kline, whose 'Desire Lines' books is one of my new favorites. Some of her other books include 'Orphan Train, 'The Way Life Should Be,' and 'Sweet Water.' I really enjoyed the way she wound the Bangor of my youth into her story, including references to Pilot's Grill and other now-long-gone landmarks.

The Together Place works to help people dealing with substance use disorder and those with mental health issues to re-integrate into society and is paying tribute to many talented and successful Maine natives with its new exhibit. Maine has an unusually high number of successful authors, not to mention several others who have gone on to fame, like actress Anna Kendrick. This exhibit recognizes their many contributions.

The public is invited to stop by at 5:00 on Thursday afternoon to see the 'Stories of Maine' exhibit and learn more about the services offered by the Together Place, which is a program of Maine Mental Health Connections, Inc.
