Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica...Bangor?

This is a little too close to where I live...yikes!

Living on the west side of Bangor is an experience, to say the least. There is always something going on in, and around my neighborhood, so when I saw a Facebook group for the Fairmount area of town, I jumped at the chance to join.

Usually, there are posts about people giving things away, or someone's daughter is selling lemonade on the sidewalk. Those are the good things. Unfortunately, there have been incidents of vandalism too, so I like to keep up to date with what is going on.

A few nights ago in that part of town, security camera footage captured a furry creature wandering in a driveway. This bear is not far from where I live, so you can bet I will keep an eye peeled for this bear, as cute as it is, it still freaks me out!

As a rule, they are not looking for a human confrontation, so don't worry too much. However, I'd keep those garbage lids closed tight, especially on trash night!

However, if you do encounter one, alter your route or back away slowly, preferably in the direction you came. Walk, do not run, and keep your eye on the bear so you can see how it reacts. In most cases, the bear will flee. If the bear walks toward you, act boldly, yelling, or throwing something at it.

A few weeks ago, a woman caught a photo of one right behind her on the Orono Bog Walk. You can see a video of that here.
