According to WMTW, law enforcement officials believe the girl suffered a head injury at some point as she was skiing down a trail on Black Mountain with her sister. Her sister, believing originally that the nine-year-old girl was having a heart attack, called 911 and remained on the line while emergency personnel made their way to the scene.
"The exact circumstances of how she was hurt remain unclear; the deputy fire chief describes her injuries as serious and notes that she was in and out of consciousness during the emergency response.
The Rumford Fire Department was assisted by the Black Mountain's ski patrol to help get the girl off the mountain. An ambulance transported her to Rumford hospital before a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter was called in to bring her to Maine Medical Center."

Earlier this month, a 5-year-old was hospitalized after falling from a ski-lift at Sunday River in Newry.
And just a few years back, another child, this one 8-years-old, had to be rescued when she slipped from a Ski lift and dangled 25 ft above the ground, at Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley. That ordeal was caught on camera.

According to data collected nationwide, there have been around 3,000 pediatric ski injuries over the past decade.
"Impacts with the snow/ground made up 70.8% of all injuries. Fractures were the most common injury diagnosis, followed by strains/sprains, with the lower leg being most frequently fractured. While strains/sprains and contusions/abrasions showed a significant decline..."
Officials from the resort did address the incident on the Black Mountain of Maine Facebook Page on Monday afternoon, saying:
"We can confirm that there was an incident on the mountain on Saturday, February 28th. Our ski patrol responded and transported the individual to the base area, where they were then taken by ambulance to Rumford Hospital for further care. Our thoughts are with them and their family."
There's no word on the girl's condition.
