Brewer Gets Another Chess Table Over Near The Playground

Some really neat spots in Brewer invite folks to interact with certain areas around town.

Just last month, along the Brewer River Walk, the "Cool Tones" exhibit was created for the public. It invites people to try their hand at creating musical sounds on special instruments they've set up along the way.

Recently there's been another interactive addition to the City of Brewer that is similar to some spots along the Riverwalk.

Steve Wong and the Creative Arts Center donated a new chess table to the City.  According to ChessMaine.net, Wong, who has played chess and even coached local chess teams for years, also donated the first few chess tables to the City of Brewer's Riverwalk in 2017.

"Thanks in part to chess coach, tournament director, and Brewer, Maine resident Steve Wong, two outdoor chess tables have been installed on the Brewer waterfront. The tables are located just southwest of the Wilson Street Bridge along the Penobscot River in a public space known as the Brewer Children's Garden. "

According to the Brewer Parks and Recreation Facebook Page, the new chess table was recently installed. This one is located near the municipal pool and playground.

"This one will be located at the Community Playground, right beside the pool. We can’t wait to see it in action next summer, bringing people together for some strategic fun while enjoying the outdoors.

Aside from the tables along the waterfront, and now the one at the park, Wong and the folks at Creative Arts are also responsible for the giant chess set that sits just off the Brewer River Walk, behind the Creative Arts building.
