
Brewer, Maine Grocery Store Sells Winning $5.7-Million Ticket
A woman from Eddington is $5.7 million richer thanks to a lottery ticket she bought at Paradis Shop N Save in Brewer.
According to WABI TV, the woman, whose name has not been released, won the Maine State Lottery's "Lucky For Life" contest and opted for a lump-sum payout.
"They say she chose the lump sum payment of more than $5.7 million, which is one of the largest prizes ever awarded by the Maine Lottery.
The Maine Lottery says Paradis Shop ‘n Save of Brewer sold the winning ticket and will receive a $50,00 bonus."
There have been a number of winners of smaller jackpots over the past year or two, according to the Maine State Lottery Website.
Mainers have the option of playing a number of different games for a number of different jackpots, including the Powerball, Mega Millions, Tri-State Megabucks, Lotto America, Lucky 4 Life, Gimme 5, Pick 3, and Cash Pop.
According to folks at the Maine State Lottery, the money generated by sales of lotto tickets goes to help the state."
Since the first drawing over 40 years ago, the Maine Lottery has paid over $2.2 billion in prizes to players. These prizes have ranged from as low as 50 cents all the way to $9.1 million.
With more than 1,250 current lottery retail agents scattered throughout the state, lottery sales provide a consistent year-round revenue stream for small and large businesses alike. From large chains to smaller establishments, in 2015 alone, lottery retail agents received over $16.5 million in total commissions and bonuses.
In the last 40 years, more than $335 million in sales commissions and bonuses have been paid to these businesses."
