They released this request after being called to try and save several barred owls. With all the rats in the news Mainers have been turning to poisons to control the population with the unexpected side effect of killing birds of prey like owls. They point out that a challenging season was already expected because of the boom in squirrels.  I had thought as I traveled through Massachusetts this fall and seeing all the carnage on the side of the highway that raptors in that area might be in danger seeking what looked like an easy meal.  Unfortunately my thoughts were spot on.

The Center for Wildlife PSA also goes on to point out that food stuffs pitched from the car can bait young owls into dangerous situations so they are asking us to hold onto that trash until we get near a receptacle.
