Challenger Learning E-Waste Recycling Event Underway [UPDATE]

Spring is usually the time of year we share the news from Challenger Learning Center about their Electronic Waste (E-Waste) collection event.  It is usually a specific Saturday. You load the car with your stuff and take it to their facility out by the Bangor airport.

Challenger and their E-Waste partner North Coast Services will not hold a one-day event this year but again will hold a different type of E-Waste collection.

Residents from any community will be welcome to drop off their E-Waste at the North Coast Services Collection warehouse which is located at 358 Emerson Mill Road in Hampden. It is inside Pine Tree Waste, and not far from Dysart’s truck stop.

The hours are Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., however, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are preferred. And the dates are Monday, April 17th to Friday, April 28th.

Here are the items accepted for drop off

• CRT Monitors
• Televisions
• Printers
• Fax machines
• Scanners
• Computer towers
• Laptops
• Cell phones
• Miscellaneous electronics

Items NOT accepted

• Air conditioners
• Dehumidifiers
• Any freon devices
• Any mercury devices such as thermometers or thermostats
• Smoke detectors
• Light bulbs
• Vacuum cleaners
• Or batteries

Challenger Learning Center does not benefit from your recycled items.

They depend on your donations to inspire Maine students in STEM learning.

Suggested donation amount is $10 for the first item and $5 for additional items.

Remember how that donation money is used. And take part any weekday through Friday, April 28^th.

So now instead of just one Saturday, you have not one but two weeks (April 17th to 28th) to recycle E-Waste, which should never end up in the landfill.
