The body of a woman found washed up on the shore near the Portland Headlight last week has been identified.

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, she was from the Portland area and clothed when she was discovered on the beach.

"The Maine State Police has received confirmation from the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta that the deceased female found at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth has been positively identified as 52-year-old Sari Carlson of Portland, Maine. The cause and manner of death remain pending. "

Earlier in the week, authorities had asked for the public's help in identifying Carlson and released images of a specific tattoo she had on her hip, the description of the clothes she was wearing, and photos of the type and style of boots she was wearing when she was found.

While authorities are still looking into the matter and for answers to how she ended up in the water, they do not believe there's any risk to the public.

We will update this story further when more information is released.
