Yes, it has sat there vacant in Ellsworth for almost a year now, one of America's most famous diners best known for serving up the Grand Slam breakfast.

Now, what is supposedly one of the most prime pieces of business real estate in downeast Maine just sits there, being overtaken with weeds and what not.  It's been that way since it closed back in March of 2020.

The owners of the Denny's at 75 High Street in Ellsworth have recently put the place up for sale, or lease for that matter.  Apparently it took almost a year for the current lease to be taken care of.  Meanwhile, the coffee got cold.

The former 5,600 square foot restaurant that sits on 2.37 acres is listed by realtor Steve Shelton of the Acadia Realty Group at $2 million.  As it stands right now, the Maine based group that owns the company would prefer to lease it, according to the Ellsworth American.

The nasty COVID-19 pandemic may have put the place over the edge, although it seemed to be struggling somewhat before the nastiest of it set in.

So the question of the day is, what will end up where Denny's once was?  Or, better yet, what restaurant would you like to see end up there?

Maybe one of the more well-liked and respected restaurants of the Bangor area would lease the property, a place like Las Palapas Mexican Restaurant, Dysart's or Harvest Moon Deli.

Or, maybe you'd like to see another national chain restaurant move in, like Cracker Barrel, Chick-fil-A or Cheesecake Factory.
