
Route 9 Reopens As Authorities Investigate Fatal Crash In Eddington Monday
Authorities say one person is dead, another injured after a serious accident on Route 9 in Eddington on Monday afternoon.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, emergency dispatchers were alerted just after 1 PM on Monday that a serious crash had occurred along the Main Rd/Route 9, near the Eddington Fire Department.
"Upon arrival, first responders determined that a van traveling westbound on Route 9 had crossed the roadway and struck a work vehicle that was legally parked in the breakdown lane. The collision was head-on and resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles. The operator of the parked work vehicle was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The operator of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene."
That stretch of road was closed for a few hours during the afternoon as the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team tried to piece together the events that led to the crash.

Rescue units from the Eddington and Holden Fire Departments, along with Brewer Rescue and Capital Ambulance, responded to the scene to assist.
The Sheriff's Office says the accident is currently under investigation and has not yet released the names of the individuals involved.
The Maine Department of Transportation says there have been 32 fatal crashes on Maine roadways so far this year. Just in the last 2 weeks, at least two people have died in motor-vehicle-related accidents in Penobscot County.
