Family-Friendly Pro Wrestling Returns to Skowhegan This Saturday
If you didn't get your "wrestling fix" last weekend with WWE's WrestleMania, Skowhegan will host an event that may just scratch that itch. After a three-year hiatus, Mat & Muscle Pro Wrestling (MMPW) brings their "Rebirth" show to The SPACE on the River in Skowhegan this Saturday, April 8.
Nicholas Rousselle (also known as "The Hardcore MAINEiac" J.P. O'Reilly), co-owner and wrestler at MMPW, said that the upcoming wrestling show promises to feature clashes that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. "With the combination of local talent competing with some of New England's best, we plan on showcasing exciting matchups."
If you've never been to a live professional wrestling show, Rousselle encourages you to give it a try.
"People who have never seen professional wrestling before should always try and go to at least one event. You may be surprised at how fun the atmosphere will be. Not just from a wrestling perspective, but also how the fans engage and become like a family when they are all together cheering their favorites, and booing their least favorites. Our mission for MMPW is to bring family-friendly, quality entertainment in the form of pro wrestling to Maine."
This will be their second show under the MMPW banner. The first event happened in January 2020 with more shows planned, however, a global pandemic had put a pause on any future wrestling show plans.
Additionally, the folks over at MMPW have been raising funds to help a local Skowhegan Savings Bank manager, Debbie Tucker Nadeau, in her battle with breast cancer. "Gloves on for Deb" t-shirts have been promoted and sold on her behalf with those proceeds going directly to Nadeau. They will also be taking donations during the event on Saturday.
Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the event will start at 6 pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on their website and at the door, however, tickets are limited.
