2 Arrested In Sydney Street Drug Bust; More Arrests Expected Say Cops In Bangor, Maine
A man from Waterbury, Connecticut, and a woman from Bangor, Maine, were arrested this week in connection with a drug bust in the Queen City, authorities say.
According to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the raid on a house on Sydney Street in Bangor this afternoon was the result of an investigation that's been going on for many months.
Based on evidence, including multiple instances of the illegal sale of drugs to undercover law enforcement agents, 39-year-old William Sanchez was taken into custody on Tuesday, before the search warrant was executed on a home at 94 Sydney Street in Bangor. Authorities say 45-year-old Eileen Chase was arrested after the search today.
"As a result of the search warrant, agents located and seized a kilo of cocaine, a kilo of suspected fentanyl, 284 grams of cocaine base (crack), 2 handguns, and over $36,000 in suspected drug proceeds...Maine Drug Enforcement’s North Central Task Force was assisted by the Bangor Police, US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Department of Homeland Security, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs."

According to the 2025 National Drug Threat Assessment put out by the DEA, Fentanyl overdoses are still a major issue in the U.S.
"Provisional data from CDC indicated that 74,702 of the 107,543 total drug overdose deaths in 2023 (69 percent) involved synthetic opioids, primarily Fentanyl."
15 years ago, the Department of Justice said the street value of a kilo of Fentanyl alone in Bangor ranged between $100,000 and $165,000. Because it's used in so many ways now, and depending on the purity of the product, it's hard to say what the going price is today.

Sanchez was charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Cocaine HCI, Cocaine Base, and Fentanyl. Chase was charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Fentanyl. Both are class A crimes. Bail was set for Sanchez at $150,000 cash, and for Chase, $100,000 cash.
The Maine DEA says they expect to make more arrests in this case as a result of the investigation.
