We have all seen the alarming videos where a child is almost hit by a driver ignoring the flashing stop sign on a school bus. If fact one of our I95 listeners is a school bus driver and he confirms that even here in Maine people pass his stopped bus almost everyday. So how happy are we to see what probably should have been added to buses for our children's safety years ago.

This swing arm that can be added to a school bus actually swings out and blocks the oncoming lane. The only rub right now and the reason that you may have to wait awhile to see them in your neighborhood is the cost.  Adding one of these extended safety arms to a bus costs $2000.00 according to this NewsCenter video making the process of adding them daunting for bus companies. Let's hope our state steps up with subsidies if needed to make this happen.

Here is more.
