Bangor Mall Blvd. is Actually In Way Better Shape Than It’s Been In Years
I know that headline seems crazy, but it's true.
I had to run our to the mall area on an errand today, and I specifically went back to a spot that, over the winter, kinda blew my mind for how bad the road was. It was rutted and icy and was so nasty that it was actually blocked off and you had to divert around it. I wasn't sure what to expect as I made my way over there.
Considering the history/reputation of the road that goes around the mall, I wasn't really expecting much. In fact, I expected to see the spring version of the nightmare I witnessed over the winter. I expected a lunar landscape, complete with vehicle-swallowing craters that eat cars whole. I wasn't expecting what I saw.
A dump truck, steamrollers, and other road construction equipment.
While I was scanning the horizon for holes in the ground, I was met with the sight of a crew doing legit work on Bangor Mall Blvd. There were trucks, new tar being spread about, and heavy machinery doing actual work to make the road more traversable. I was so surprised I stopped and took a photo, hahaha.
When I finally got to my previous area of horror, I found a basically flat stretch of road, with all the potholes filled in with tar. Sure, it's not as nice as if they were fully resurfacing the road, but a few months ago, there were holes in the road that was easily well over a foot deep. Now there was just... road.
There's a long way to go to bring the mall back to its glory days, and we all know it probably won't. It may find a way to pivot and find a new way in the new world, but it's nice to be able to get all the way around the entire mall without disappearing in a foxhole. Here's to crossing our fingers for even more to come for the mall road.
