In A Show Of Solidarity, Bangor City Hall Lights Up With Ukraine Colors
The City of Bangor is the latest to follow suit in what has become a nationwide trend of individuals and entities showing support and solidarity for Ukraine.
Last week, Bangor's local FOX/ABC affiliate, WFVX Fox Bangor, swapped its usual Red, White and Black logo, for a yellow and blue logo.
I've seen folks sporting blue and yellow stickers and posters on their lawns and vehicles. I have seen people wear blue and yellow shirts, ties, sweaters, and outfits. I've even seen sports teams and musical groups performing the National Anthem of Ukraine.
So what will Bangor City Hall do to stand with Ukraine during this time of unbelievable and unprecedented conflict?
According to newly appointed City Manager, Debbie Laurie, Bangor has decided to be a light in the darkness, literally, and illuminate the Bangor City Hall building with blue and yellow lights.
Laurie, said that an individual emailed the City last week and said they had seen the City Hall lit up before for different events, and asked the City Council might consider using blue and yellow lights in a show of support for Ukraine?
Laurie spoke with the City Council and they implemented the change Wednesday night.
"We have units that we've used in the past, so it was just a matter of having our electrician retune them, bring them back, and set them up."
As to how long the light will remain, Laurie says that really depends on what happens overseas.
She hopes the move helps people feel more united. "Hopefully it shares the sentiment that 'you are not alone. '"
