Interstate 95 Work Begins Today Between Palmyra and Carmel

Work will take place within both the north and southbound lanes during the entire reconstruction project.

A 13 mile stretch of Interstate 95 west of Bangor between Palmyra and Carmel will be repaved starting today, and the work will continue until sometime this summer.

The Maine Department of Transportation tells us that the 13 mile stretch will include the Interstate's pathway through Palmyra, Etna, Newport, Plymouth and Carmel, and that the reconstruction of the roadway will occur between exits 157 and 170.

Drivers of course should slow down and pay attention during the course of construction or find a alternate route. Please have patience and be aware of the construction workers, as most of them live right here in this area.

Northeast paving will construct the $6,794,848 project that begins today, Monday, May 3rd, which will include paving, bridge, and guardrail work throughout the 13 miles. Commuters should expect flaggers along with signage directing single lane traffic in both the north and southbound sides of the Interstate.

The Maine Department of Transportation has directed the contractor to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the day work will continue until at least June 25th.  Following June 25th, overnight lane closures will occur in order to complete the project.  The MDOT expects the entire project to be completed by end of June.

Over-width vehicles are prohibited from traveling between exits 157 and 159 in both the northbound and southbound lanes during construction. A detour route will be posted.

When all is said and done commuters will have a nice smooth road to ride to and from work on.
