
Hampden, Maine Man Identified As Victim Of I-95 Crash
The driver in an I-95 crash in Clinton is now in custody, and the police identified the passenger who died as a Hampden man.

John Perkins, 38, of Hampden was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Tyler Hewitt that crashed on I-95 in Clinton on Tuesday.
A rental van left the northbound lane, entered the ditch , and then became airborne over the median crossover, before striking a tree.
Hewitt fled from the crash, allegedly carrying a backpack. Despite a search involving a Maine State Police K-9 and air support, there was no sign of the driver.
Maine State Police Arrest Driver Who Fled From a Fatal Crash on I-95 in Clinton
On Thursday afternoon, State Police received a call about a suspicious person walking on Hill Road. After canvassing the area, Clinton Police Officers located Hewitt as he emerged from the woods near I-95.

Troopers confirmed that Hewitt was driving on a suspended license when he was involved in the fatal crash on November 25 that claimed the life of John Perkins.
Maine State Police Seize Drugs From Driver of Fatal I-95 Crash
An inspection of a backpack Hewitt was carrying resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
Hewitt faces multiple charges:
- Aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs.
- Leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death.
- Operating after suspension.
