His iconic Seinfeld character first appeared in the final episode of Season 6 and went on to appear in more than 20 episodes, including the series finale.
The real founder of the J. Peterman Company is John Peterman, and he bears no resemblance to the fictional J. Peterman on Seinfeld. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld created the character solely from the J. Peterman catalog’s dramatic, flowery clothing descriptions.

Although he was born in Kittery, O’Hurley spent his school years in several states, attending Natick High School in Massachusetts and Kingswood-Oxford School in Connecticut.
This was before he moved to DuBois, Pennsylvania, in ninth grade. He finished his senior year at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, graduating in 1972, and later earned his BA in Theatre from Providence College in 1976.

And there you have it! While he’s known for so many television roles, to Mainers, he may be best known for being one of us.
