9 Times Animals Have Taken Over the News in Maine
Maine animals often find their way into the headlines, sometimes for tragic reasons and sometimes just for fun.
Maine is Filled With Animals, Both Wild and Domestic
One of the things I love most about living in Maine is the fact that we're always surrounded by animals. I see deer on my drive into work in the morning and hear the loons on the pond near my house when I fall asleep at night.
Tourists come here specifically to see a moose or take a whale watching trip, to see puffins and seals, or to watch deer grazing in a field at dusk. It's the kind of beauty we often take for granted.

Stories of Animals in Maine Often Find Their Way Into the Headlines
That is, until those animals end up in the headlines, like the rabid fox that attacked a 95-year-old man. That story had a happy ending for the man but not for the fox, as the animal was beaten to death. Other stories are funnier, like the moose that decided to take a stroll on an I-95 bridge in Waterville during morning rush hour, bringing traffic to a standstill.

We Have Mad Respect For Animals That Serve Maine Through Law Enforcement
And then there are the heartwarming ones, like when a Maine Warden Service K-9 finds a missing child. I could go on and on about dogs that work with law enforcement and all the good works they do. They have my undying respect.
I've put together a list of nine animals that found their way into the headlines in Maine. Some are sad, yes, but others will make out smile and remember that this is why we live here, to interact with the wilder side of life.
