Maine Man Accused of Stabbing Another Man in China

A Lewiston man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in the Kennebec County town of China.

Jacob Hebert, 36, of Lewiston, is charged with elevated aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a man.

He is currently in the Kennebec County Jail, where he's being held without bail.

It was just before 1:00 am on Tuesday when the Maine State Police responded to a report of a stabbing in China.

An initial investigation determined that a 47-year-old man from Oakland had been stabbed, allegedly by Hebert.

Maine State Police Say a China Stabbing Victim and Suspect Knew Each Other

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the investigation indicates that the two men know each other.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later discharged.

Officials say the Lewiston man had fled the scene in a black Jeep Cherokee before the Troopers' arrival, so a temporary arrest warrant was issued in his name.

Lewiston, Maine Man Arrested for China Stabbing During a Traffic Stop

At approximately 4:00 pm on Tuesday, investigators received information that Hebert had returned to the area.

Officials say a Trooper located Hebert's Jeep on Deer Hill Road and kept an eye on it until additional units arrived and took him into custody during a traffic stop.
