Two fires in recreational vehicles over the weekend affected the vacations of Maine families in Trenton and Newburgh.

Maine Vacations Cut Short by Fires in Two Recreational Vehicles

Vacations always present several challenges, but for two Maine families, their vacation time took a dangerous turn when their campers caught on fire.

The good news is that there were no injuries in either case, but sadly, both fires left the recreational vehicles unusable.

Trenton, Maine Fire Crews Respond to an RV Fire at Narrow Too Campground

On Tuesday, August 4th, just before 8 am, members of the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a recreational vehicle fire at Narrow Too Campground, on the Bar Harbor Road.

When they arrived, firefighters encountered a working fire involving a large recreational vehicle.

All the occupants had exited safely before the crews arrived.

Firefighters from the Trenton, Ellsworth, Hancock, and Lamoine departments worked together to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby campsites.

Officials say the RV sustained significant damage and was not drivable once the fire was extinguished.

An investigation into the cause of the fire determined it started in the camper's refrigeration unit.

Vehicle Fire at an I-95 Rest Area in Newburgh, Maine Destroys a Camper

On Monday, August 3, a recreational vehicle fire prompted crews to respond to a rest area off I-95 in Newburgh.

According to Hampden Public Safety, the owners of the RV were traveling north on I-95 when they noticed the smell of burning plastic and pulled into the rest area.

Once the vehicle was stopped, the owners saw smoke and flames, grabbed their pet, exited the vehicle, and called 911.

Hampden and Hermon fire crews worked together to extinguish the blaze that burned the RV almost down to the wheels.

Officials have not commented on the possible cause of this fire.

Again, no one was hurt in either incident.
