
The Warmest April Day in Maine History Happened in 2009
To say that people in Maine might be a little weather depressed is an understatement. The cold has held tightly to the Pine Tree State since November and even though the calendar claims it's spring, the temperatures haven't followed suit.
Based on the long range forecast, those warmer spring temperatures don't appear to be arriving anytime soon. Maine will be lucky to see a single day over 60 degrees in the next couple of weeks.
While the start of this spring has been chilly, that hasn't always been the case.
Maine Set a Record High For April in 2009
It's not uncommon for the month of April to start off colder in Maine. Historical data tells us that April sees the largest gradual increase in average temperature of any month in Maine during the year.
According to the County, Maine shattered high temperature records on April 27, 1990. That's when the record high of 87 degrees was set. That record high stood for 29 years until it was broken in 2009, when Maine reached 92 degrees on April 28.
A Few Other Weather Records For Maine in April May Surprise You
While a record single-day high of nearly 90 degrees seems reasonable, there's a few other weather-related records for Maine in April that might surprise you.
Maine set a record-breaking single-day snowfall record of 21 inches in 1982. The entire month average for April snowfall in Maine is a little over 7 inches.
Maine suffered from a drought in 1967, when less than a half an inch of rain fell for all of April. Maine typically averages more than 5 times that amount in April.
