Hannaford Issues Recall of Ground Beef Sold in Maine, NH, and MA
Have you ever had food poisoning?
It's literally the worst. In some cases, it can even be fatal. But it's not extremely often. However, even just getting mildly ill from food poisoning can be the pits. It's like all the worst parts of the flu, except there's nothing you can really do about it. You just basically suffer, and ride it out until it's over.
After years in the foodservice industry, it's only happened to me a few times. But it was likely user error. I can't think of a place I've ever worked, where a customer had ever claimed to be sick. But in general, it obviously happens. Ideally, you'd want to get out in front of it and head it off at the pass, though.
Hannaford did just that very thing.
Yesterday, Hannaford announced a recall on their store-brand 85% ground beef. There's a fear that it could be contaminated with E.coli, and out of an abundance of caution, have decided to recall all the ground beef in question. Although, at this time no illnesses have been reported from the beef, according to News Center Maine.
You may want to look in your fridge or freezer and look for this info, from Hannaford's release on their website...

How many stores are affected?
Dozens of stores all across Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are affected. So this is not an isolated situation. Again, no one has come forward as being made ill by this product. Often, recalls like this are issued out of concern, even if the reality is that it's possible it's not contaminated at all. But it's certainly worth poking around your fridge or freezer to double check your own situation at home.
