Rockport, Maine Announces Dates for its Annual Donut Festival
I do consider myself to be a donut expert.
I suppose a lot of people consider themselves experts in the world of donuts, but I will alter vacation plans around finding a solid donut shop. Or occasionally, my wife and I will actually hit the road and drive what many would consider way too far, for a donut I've never had before.

And while I'll absolutely try anything involving donuts, I often will judge a place by how they handle the classics. I'm particularly hard on shops that create good old plain glazed donuts. I'm very choosy, but I also like the way different places do theirs. I won't get too deep into naming names. I don't want to start a brand loyalty war, hahaha.
In June, Rockport, Maine will be the place to be, as far as donuts.
Friday and Saturday, June 7th and 8th, Rockport will be hosting the 2nd annual Rockport Donut Festival. And it's everything it sounds like. There will be donuts, presumably of every shape and size, from all over the place. But there will also be a ton of activities.
There will be vendors, live music, food trucks, a beer and wine garden, and even a donut "talk" from 4:00pm - 6:00pm on Friday. To say there's something for the whole family, for all ages, is an understatement. And if nothing else, you'll get to eat your weight in donuts, which is the most important part.
Why are donuts so important to Rockport?
Well, as many know, Captain Hanson Crockett Gregory essentially invented the donut hole, and we know those are a Maine staple. The story is fascinating all by itself, which you can check out here, but it's safe to say that without our beloved state of Maine, donuts wouldn't exist, and we have the receipts to prove it.

The festival usually corresponds with National Donut Day, which is the first Friday in June. But I imagine to hope for some warmer weather perhaps, the festival is on the 7th and 8th. Regardless, it's going to absolutely be the donut capital of Maine for that weekend. If you see me headed in, I may never make it out. I may need a hand!
