A banker once told me that even though customers don't use their local branch, it still made them feel comfortable that it was there.

Comfort will have to come from across the river soon.

Key Bank customers who have used the branch at the corner of Wilson Street and Parkway South in Brewer received a notice in the mail this week that the branch will be closing.  The notice also went on to explain that Key Bank would be combining that branch with their Key Plaza branch at 5 Water Street in Bangor

The last day that the Brewer Key Bank  location will be open will be Friday, May 21st.  The doors will close for good at 3 p.m. that day.

Key Bank also has a branch at 29 Bangor Mall Boulevard, in the Mid Mall right next to U.S. Cellular and Lamey Wellehan shoes.

The closure of the Key Bank branch in Brewer will leave an empty building in a prime retail spot at the corner of Wilson and Parkway South, a very busy area that leads to the U.S. Post Office and Brewer High School in one direction and Hannaford, Tradewinds and WalMart in the other. So, one would have to wonder what will eventually take it's place.

We once polled our listeners asking what new business they would like to see come to the area, and places like Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, Sonic, Reny's, and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store all came to the forefront.

So it may take a while for another business to move into the Key Bank location in Brewer following it's closure and this nasty COVID-19 pandemic, but it's always interesting to find out what's eventually on it's way next.
