
33 Years Later An Arrest Has Been Made In The Murder Of 73-Year-Old Kittery Woman
The family of a Kittery woman who authorities say was murdered in her own home 33 years ago, are finally steps closer to getting some closure.
The Maine Department of Public Safety revealed this week that an arrest has been made in connection to the homicide death of 73-year-old Maxine Bitomski, who was found dead in her Colonial Road home by family members on the afternoon of January 16th, 1993.

Authorities say 59-year-old Daniel Jolly of Portsmouth, New Hampshire was arrested at just after 6 AM Thursday June 4th, as a joint effort by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Portsmouth Police Department.
Maine law enforcement agents from the Kittery Police Department and the Maine State Police Department have been working on this case for over three decades. While the manner in which Bitomski was murdered has not been released, Maine's Chief Medical Officer determined the cause of her death to be homicide.
Investigators have relentlessly spent years working on leads, examining the evidence and trying piece together what led to Bitomski's murder.
"Investigators determined Jolly knew Bitomski through his employment with Medical Market, a medical supply company that was based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that provided oxygen equipment and services to Bitomski prior to her death.
Beginning in 2021, the investigation was re-examined by Detectives assigned to Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- South. Investigators continued pursuing leads, reviewing evidence, and utilizing advances in DNA testing that ultimately led to Jolly’s arrest.

Lt. Tom Pickering, the man in charged of the Unsolved Unit of the Mane State Police Major Crime, says apprehending Jolly was a direct result in the hard work everything involved has put into this case from the onset.

“This arrest reflects the determination and commitment of investigators who never stopped working this case. The work completed by current and retired Maine State Police Detectives, members of the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory and the Kittery Police Department over the past 33 years was instrumental in bringing this case to this point.”

While the investigation remains open, Jolly is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail in New Hampshire, awaiting extradition back to Maine. He's been charged with murder.
