Lewiston, Maine Man Critically Injured After Firework Explodes In Apartment
A man from Lewiston was airlifted to the hospital Monday afternoon after fireworks exploded in his apartment.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate after the local police were dispatched to the scene, just about 4:30 PM.
" A team of investigators responded to an apartment building located at 69 Horton Street and determined that a 39-year-old adult male was seriously injured when a consumer firework exploded inside his apartment. The adult male was flown by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he is listed in critical condition. Damage to the apartment where the incident happened was minimal."
Under Maine state law, consumer fireworks are "the only type of fireworks that can be sold directly to the public in Maine."
There are also state regulations as to where and when consumer fireworks can be used, for instance:
"A person may use consumer fireworks only on that person’s property or on the property of a person who has consented to the use of consumer fireworks on that property."
It's not clear why the fireworks were set of inside of the residence.
It appears no one else was injured during the explosion. Authorities are still trying to determine just what happened.
