Which Maine City Is Considered The Best Weekend Getaway In The US?

So as warm weather causes your mind to drift to summer and weekend getaways don't forget that just a few years ago that our friends at Thrilllist named one of our Maine cities the very best small city to plan  for a weekend getaway.

To be fair they list 25 intriguing locations and several are on the east coast and in New England. You can see the full list here.  So which city in Maine does Thrillist say tops the other 24? That would be Portland, Maine.

Their reasoning goes something like this. Food comes into play with lobster topping the menu. They make mention of the working waterfront and Old Port and all the fresh of the boats offerings at local restaurants. For sights they were impressed by Portland Head light at Fort Williams and the beautiful beached in Scarborough. They go on to list many of the micro breweries and remind us this is not the first time Portland has been the apple of their eye making their list of one of the most underrated food cities in America.

Add to that since this article was written two years ago Portland has ramped up their Waterfront Concerts and the side excitement of Scarborough Downs and Fun Town Splash Town a hop skip and a jump in Saco. So what are you waiting for?
