Why does Maine need to be so scary?

One of my favorite authors of all time is H.P. Lovecraft. I wouldn't say he's unknown by any stretch of the imagination, as the likes of Stephen King have loudly listed Lovecraft among his primary influences. Most of Lovecraft's stories took place in New England, or at the very least featured character from here.

His stories mess with your imagination and take you to some very dark corners of your mind. But when all is said and done, like with any book, you can just out it down when you're done. You can even laugh it off and just remind yourself it's a story. But sometimes real life mimics these stories, and the stories become a little too real to feel good about.

Have you ever heard the story of the Martin family in Palmyra?

Back in 2007, the Martin family bought a house in Palmyra, just outside of Newport. Being lovers of the outdoors and time spent on their wraparound porch, Eric Martin and his wife Shelly used to spend evenings sitting outside. But on one night in particular, they noticed some extremely large animals in the field across from them.

In the country, an updated version of a country farm house is photographed.

There were five of the large beasts out in the field, and they just sort of stared at them off in the distance. The Martins were spooked for sure, but kind of let it go. After all, most people justify it in the most logical ways. Maybe they were bears or moose or something...

Then the creatures came back.

A few weeks later, they were enjoying a night on the porch as usual, and they saw the beasts again and all of a sudden they came charging across the field. The Martins ran in the house with the rest of their family and they all barricaded themselves inside. All night long these creatures were stalking the house. Shelly Martin claimed to have seen one up on it's hind legs several times, reaching a height of over 7 feet.

After spending a long and terrified night trapped in their house, they went outside in the morning and found evidence of the creatures. The grounds were all dug up, there were huge scratches on the doors. They had even made it onto the roof at points and made scratches on the second story walls.

That's enough of that, thanks.

As you can imagine, the Martins sold the house and got out of there quickly. I don't blame them. I wouldn't wanna stay there after something like that. There's also a lot more to the story. There are other details with other family member's encounters. It's insane.

Like any situation similar to this, there's really only two possibilities. It's either 100% true, or it's 100% fake. Well, there could have been wild animals, but not necessarily werewolves. but 7 feet tall on hind legs? That's no coyote. And those would have to be some pretty athletic bears... Anyway, scope this video and get the whole tale from front to back. It's unsettling at the very least.

From here, let's move onto some bugs that are only slightly less terrifying.

LOOK: The states with the most UFO sightings

For each state, we’ve also included details of famous UFO sightings in that state. Of note is that almost three-quarters of all UFO sighting reports in the United States occur between 4 p.m. and midnight, and tend to peak between 9 and 10 p.m. Food for thought next time you're out scoping for alien life. Keep reading to see which states have had the most UFO sightings.
