Did you know that Bucksport is home to one of Maine's most famous spooky legends: The Cursed Tomb of Colonel Buck. If you've never heard the story, prepare to enjoy a scary treat!
The tomb features a mysterious stain that looks quite a bit like a woman's stocking-clad leg and foot. Some people say it looks more like a boot, but either way, it's certainly not something you would ever expect to see on a memorial!
According to local legend, Colonel Jonathan Buck ordered a woman accused of witchcraft to be burned at the stake. As the story goes, one of her legs rolled out of the fire, and before her death, she placed a curse on the colonel. Then the strange leg-shaped stain later appeared on his tomb as a reminder of that curse.
Of course, it's a legend, but the story has been passed down through generations, making the tomb one of Bucksport's most talked about attractions.
If you're looking for a fun fall adventure in Maine, why not add Bucksport to your list? You can enjoy the autumn scenery, explore the town's historic charm, and check out the legendary tomb, it really is a perfect Halloween season adventure. Just don't forget to look for that mysterious stain!
