I'm beginning to think Mainers are actually the worst behind the wheel.

We do so many things that are just dumb. We don't know how to merge right, and at the same time, we absolutely refuse to let anyone else merge onto anything. Let's face it, as a fleet of New England drivers, we road-rage over the dumbest things. All the while, we accuse every other state in the universe of not knowing how to drive.

There's an old saying somewhere that says if everyone else is always the problem, chances are pretty good that you're actually the problem. Maine drivers are like that guy at work that doesn't do crap all day long, but is the first to complain about how hard they work. We're that coworker. But instead, it's behind the wheel of a car.

Wanna see a pointlessly heated discussion?

All you have to do is check out this thread on Reddit. Redditor u/IWASRUNNING91 asked if Mainers are finally in a petty enough place, that people will actually get mad when you pass them. Not so much on the highway, but maybe on a fast-ish moving back road that has sections dedicated to being able to safely pass slower drivers.

The author says that quite often, they'll pass a car that's going as much as 10mph under the speed limit, only to have the driver of that car speed up, start flipping them the bird, then tailgating and high-beaming them. Under any circumstances, this is ridiculously aggressive behavior.

But the comments...

Here's the thing that got to me, was the small but very vocal, group of people who seemed to sympathize with the people being passed. Like, what? If you're going 10mph under the speed limit and it's safe to pass, why shouldn't I? But I personally, have experienced some of this kind of thing.

It's definitely a head scratcher. But for real... Mainers need to relax. I've driven in Boston traffic, which according to Mainers is the absolute worst... If you know how the locals drive, it's downright easy. But we bring our weird, hyper-protective road rage other places. And trust me, I bet they all hate to see us coming down the road.

It'll be so great when we add driving in snow to all of this... Then the real feelings will come out.
