As a mark of respect for Somerset County Deputy Sheriff Corporal Eugene Cole, Maine State Governor LePage has ordered that both the United States and State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff immediately.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of fallen Deputy Sheriff Corporal Eugene Cole,” said Governor LePage in a press release this afternoon. “He served his community with honor, and his sacrifice will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are also with all of Maine’s law enforcement community as they mourn the loss of their colleague, and we pray for their continued safety.”

Flags should be flown at half-staff for at least three days, as well as on the day of Corporal Cole’s interment, which has yet to be announced.

Somerset County Deputy Sheriff Corporal Eugene Cole was murdered while on duty early this morning in the town of Norridgewock.
