Holden, ME Police Crown the ‘Champion’ of Expired Registration Tags
Remember 2020?
I think most of us enjoyed the very few perks that the early days of the pandemic offered. There weren't many, for obvious reasons. But it was pretty cool when the state said that they all but ordered police to stop pulling people over for simple traffic violations. Inspection overdue? No problem! Registration way out of date? Who cares!

I won't lie... I took advantage of all those things for as long as I safely thought I could get away with it. I don't generally want to do anything to actively invite the police to pull me over. So you'd think, if your personal registration stickers on one of your vehicles was pretty far out, you might do something about it. Not in Holden...
Holden Police Dept. just crowned their newest expired tags Champ!
In a post on Facebook, the Holden Police Dept. left out the identity of the driver in question, which I think is pretty sad. Whoever was driving this vehicle is an absolute legend, as far as I'm concerned. When the Holden PD pulled this person over, they noticed their registration tags were 24 YEARS OUT OF DATE.
24 frikkin' years!! They ran out in September of 2000. Look, it's impressive to get away with something like that for even just a year or two. Even six months makes you kinda badass. Sure, in kind of a dumb, irresponsible way, but still... 24 years has got to be some kind of record. I'm not sure anyone keeps a record of that, but that's nuts.
How could someone get away with it that long?
Since the Holden PD doesn't really go into too much detail, I have a couple speculations. One might be that this vehicle spent most of it's "recent" life as a farm truck or something. Maybe it hasn't left the property in a couple decades. It's also possible that this person didn't clean the plate well before attaching the new tags and they all just fell off... Sure, 24 years worth. Why not?

Or, the other option is that somehow, this person has basically Jedi mind-tricked every cop they've come in contact with since 2000. Maybe if you're a really safe, follow-the-law kind of person, you might have gotten away with it this long. If I had gone this long, I know I'd want to push it and see how long I could get away with it. Am I right?!
