New Cars Sold in Maine Will Soon Have a New Safety Feature
What was your first car?
My first car was a hand-me-down Ford Taurus. All it really had for safety features was literally the seat belts. This was before backup cams, and proximity alarms, etc. It wasn't a bad car, and it provided me with a solid trade in on my next car, when I got my first SUV, that seemed chock full of extra safety features compared to my Taurus.

Fast forward to now, and my newest car is loaded to the gills with all the cool stuff. The only thing I don't have is heated seats, and while those aren't technically a safety feature, I'd feel a lot better about my commute if my butt was being warmed by the seat. Instead, I just have the world's most powerful defroster that pretty much dries my eyes out, hahaha. But there's a safety feature coming to new cars that will be awesome.
Starting in 2027, new cars will have back seat alarms.
Right now, when you get in most cars, there's an alarm that will sound if you don't have your seatbelt on in either of the front seats. That seems practical enough. But coming to new cars soon, alarms will be installed that will also let you know if the people in the back seats aren't buckled in.

It'll be a while, but it's on the way, according to WABI. There will also be enhancements to the alarms in the front seats of vehicles as well. Plus other things like longer duration of alarms, and better braking systems. Again, these items are still in the design stage, and there's bugs to work out, so don't expect any of these changes for at least two more years. Until then, buckle up in the back, wouldja?!
