I feel like kind of a chump...

Back in May, we had a pretty gigantic solar storm that produced some super impressive Aurora Borealis around the state. That is, if you were some of the lucky ones that had good, clear skies. At my house, it was a cloudy and disappointing evening of absolute FOMO. I wanted so badly to see what others were seeing.

Like anything though, it's all about timing. Not to mention, whenever you're dealing with unpredictable things like nature, literally anything can happen. It's always a roll of the dice to see if things are going to turn out anything like we hope. But this week, the scales seem to be tipping slightly in our favor.

According to the geeks over at Gizmodo.com, there's a G1 storm headed toward us tonight. It'll certainly create some minor activity, but there's a much more powerful G3 storm right behind it. something that strong can easily generate some pretty vivid solar/aurora activity.

Will it be like what we had back in May? That's hard to predict. For instance, if the weather doesn't cooperate, it could ruin things. Sadly, there's patchy fog and potential rain in the forecast, depending on where you are. So if it does happen, you may not see it from your house. But also, forecasts change. So keep your fingers crossed.

Can anything bad happen?

Well, not directly. you're not going to be fried into a crispy piece of human chicken due to a space laser coming from the sun. But, it could have an impact on electrical grids, and sensitive electrical systems. So it could be totally cloudy, and you see no pretty display at all, but if the flares were strong enough, it could wreak some havoc.

But I wouldn't go worrying too much about it yet. A lot of variables need to fall into place for any of this to happen. But it would be pretty cool if we could catch another big glimpse at some bright lights in the sky. I'd like to be prepared this time, instead of just wishing I was seeing them, hahaha.
