Maine wildlife officials have announced an early start to the spring turkey hunting season.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says Maine's spring turkey hunting season will begin a week early. The season will now start with two Youth Hunting Days, April 25 and 27. The season will open to all on May 2.

With a valid Maine big game or small game hunting license, turkey hunters can purchase a wild turkey permit for $20 for both residents and non-residents. This permit allows turkey hunters to take up to two bearded wild turkeys in the spring, and an additional two turkeys of either sex in the fall.

The spring turkey season runs through June 6.
