St. Louis Loves Bangor So Much They’re Telling People to Come Visit
Can you imagine vacationing somewhere, and seeing your hometown in their newspaper?
I mean, if you're vacationing in New England there's a solid chance you could hear about what's going on in your hometown a few states over. That seems plausible. But if you were 1,000 miles from home, you may not expect to see Bangor or Lewiston or Portland in the local paper.

A Maine couple vacationing in Bangor witnessed this on a recent trip to St. Louis, according to a post on the You Know You Grew Up in Bangor, When... Facebook page. They noticed that there was this really nice article that included Bangor in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It was a piece about cool "second cities" to visit around the country.
What are 'second cities'?
These are spots where you could go on vacation that aren't necessarily the top tourism spot in a state, but still have a lot to offer in terms of reasons to visit. The idea being that could have this really cool experience, and yet save yourself a ton of money because you aren't being fleeced by the expense of being in a big city.
They chose Bangor because of our proximity to so many cool things to do in the fall. Like being positioned between two state parks, and the tallest peak in Maine. Of course, they had to bring up the Stephen King thing, understandably. But also gave a nod to the Zillman Art Museum.
Bangor is pretty cool, to be fair.
Bangor gets kind of a bad rep in general, I think. I grew up in Bangor, but I don't feel biased. There's killer restaurants, the Maine Savings Amphitheater, the golf course... There's plenty to do if you want to come and check it out. It's nice to know that outside of Maine, Bangor is seen a bit more fairly.

So big thanks to the STL for giving us a little love. Granted, we'll forever be tied at the hip by the Missouri Compromise, which is kind of a sad thing to be connected by. But maybe this will effect some change in that department. Let's see how many people from the Show Me state show up next year...
