Brewer Plans ‘Neighbors Helping Heroes’ Event To Benefit Victims Of Robbins Mill Explosion
The city of Brewer is living up to its motto of being a "community of caring" as it gets ready to host what will hopefully be an epic night of fun for a most awesome cause.
The "Neighbors Helping Heroes" event will take place on Thursday, June 25th, at 6 PM at the Brewer Auditorium, 318 Wilson Street in Brewer.
Admission is entirely by donation, and Brewer's Mayor, Jenn Morin, says 100% of the proceeds collected from the fundraiser will go to help the firefighters who were injured on May 15th at the Robbins Lumber Mill explosion.

Morin says many of Brewer's own firefighters have either worked with or trained alongside the first responders who showed up to fight the fire in Waldo County two weeks ago. She says firefighters share such a bond and brotherhood. As such, many in the community wanted to step up and support these heroes, and this event gives them a way to do just that.

Several of the firefighters who were injured when the silo at the mill exploded come from small, volunteer forces, Morin says. The hope is that the money they raise will help those individuals pay for the medical costs and bills they are likely encountering at this time.
The last time the Brewer community rallied in such a way was when a beloved local physician, Dr. Adam Lauer, was fighting Pancreatic cancer, and they hosted a large fundraiser to help support the Lauer family.

Morin says there's a team of city employees and community members planning the 'Neighbors Helping Heroes' event, which will include a touch-a-truck, bounce houses, face painting, food, and a family movie, to start. She says firefighters from neighboring communities like Holden and Eddington are also helping with the effort.
"100% of the money raised from the 'Neighbors Helping Heroes' event will go to the Waldo County Firefighters Association, to be dispersed to provide relief to the affected families."
Folks and businesses who want to help in the effort are encouraged to reach out to Brewer City Manager Eric Glidden. You can reach him by emailing eglidden@brewermaine.gov or calling him at (207) 989-7500.
Donations of cash or checks will be taken at the door on the day of the event.
