Authorities say a project that's been two months in the making has now been fully launched in Lincoln. The hope is that this change will allow for better transparency, accountability, and keep both citizens and the police force safer. Officials say that members of the Lincoln Police Department have been equipped with special Axon Body Cameras, a move recently approved by the Lincoln Town Council and town officials.

Lincoln's Police Chief Lee Miller announced the news in a social media post via the Lincoln Police Department's Facebook page, saying this new technology will allow officers to keep an accurate account of interactions they have in the community, as the cameras come with special features.

"What makes our system even more effective is how it’s integrated:
✔️ Holster-activated – Cameras start recording when an officer draws their firearm.
✔️ Taser-connected – If a taser is armed, the camera activates.
✔️ Vehicle integration – Cameras begin recording when emergency lights are turned on.
These smart features help ensure that our officers’ most critical moments are captured, even in fast-moving situations."

Chief Miller says the recordings will be another helpful tool in an officer's arsenal, as it will allow officials and citizens a chance to review interactions in question to learn the details of how these encounters unfold. Miller says it's great to see the community backing an effort to modernize how police are able to care for the citizens of Lincoln.
